About Community Education and the Let's Talk Activities
The Let's Talk activities have been used successfully as part of community education strategies since 1994. Let's Talk activities provide a way for parents and guardians to assess their own children's knowledge, attitudes and behaviors-focusing on young people's experience with bullying, violence, substance abuse and injury. The family-tested activities were the centerpiece of a number of youth development initiatives including: the Annie E. Casey Foundation's Plain Talk for Parents workshop series used in Seattle, San Diego, Atlanta, and New Orleans; the CDC-funded and National Education Association sponsored Can We Talk? and ¿Conversamos? parent workshop series promoted in more than 100 cities around the county. In 2000, the Let's Talk activities were published in the Ten Talk s Parents Must Have With Their Children book series that found a national audience when Oprah built an entire show aroundTen Talks books, catapulting Ten Talks to the New York Times best-selling list.

Learn About Let's Talk Workshops
About Let's Talk
Let's Talk promotes family conversations, community dialogue and youth-focused community projects throughout the city. We help parents, children, educators and health care providers talk about important safety and health issues. Let's Talk workshops are designed to introduce parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles to resources that promote youth safety, health and success in school.
Let's Talk Workshops introduce residents to family-friendly activities focused on keeping kids safe, courses for adults and a web-based directory of resources.
The workshops can be facilitated in the workplace during lunch, at schools, in both faith-based and community centers and in families' homes. The workshops provide attendees with the tools to promote safety and health so that young people can achieve success in school and community life. Attend a Let's Talk Workshop
There is much to learn about keeping young people safe and healthy. Information technology means that young people may face bullies on the playground, online in emails, social networking sites and texting. Prescription drugs can be ordered online or through websites. Electronic games and web-based entertainment promote violence and hate crimes. Injury can come in the form of teen dating violence, alcohol related car crashes, drug overdosing and suicide.
The good news is that injuries and violence are preventable. Let's Talk workshops give attendees the skills and resources to stop safety and health problems before they start. The workshops provide a supportive environment and helps parents, guardians and other adults, who take care of children, to meet, share success stories and learn effective ways to make homes, neighborhoods and schools safe.
